Visit WVU

Campus tours, game weekends and family visits, with the practical details that make the day easy.

For prospective students

Your campus visit day

  • Start at the WVU Visitors Center, 1 Waterfront Place (first floor) on University Avenue. Tours run twice a day on weekdays and Saturdays. Book ahead on the WVU Visitors Center site.
  • Parking: use the garage next to the building and get your ticket validated inside. If it's full, use the Waterfront Place hotel garage next door.
  • On the tour: the historic downtown campus, including Woodburn Circle and the Mountainlair student union.
  • Ride the PRT between campuses like a student. It's 50¢ a ride for visitors, paid in coins at the turnstile.
  • After the tour: lunch on High Street, then walk the Caperton Trail along the river.

Game weekends

A Mountaineer football Saturday

  • Book your hotel early. Home weekends sell out, especially near the stadium and downtown.
  • Arrive hours before kickoff. Tailgating is half the fun, and traffic on Monongahela Blvd backs up fast.
  • Pregame or postgame at the Varsity Club across from the stadium, or a wings stop on University Ave.
  • Basketball season runs November to March at Hope Coliseum. It's loud, steep and worth a winter trip.
For WVU parents and families

Move-in, family weekends and graduation

  • Dinner with your student: Table 9 or Oliverio's on the Wharf, Iron Horse Tavern downtown, or Stefano's for a big occasion.
  • Something to do together: the Coopers Rock overlook (about 20 minutes away), the rail-trail along the Mon, or a show at the Met.
  • Graduation and move-in weekends fill every hotel in town. Book as soon as dates are announced. See places to stay.
  • Breakfast the West Virginia way at Tudor's Biscuit World, and pick up pepperoni rolls for the drive home.
